Global automotive markets see shifts in sales and electrification

Global automotive markets are experiencing significant shifts toward electrification and varying regional growth patterns. In Brazil, vehicle registrations reached a record 509,686 units in September, an 8.32% increase compared to the previous year, according to Fenabrave. This growth is supported by government incentive programs like Move Brasil and Carro Sustentável. Additionally, the Brazilian market for electrified light vehicles surpassed 1 million cumulative units sold.

In Portugal, the market grew 13.4% in September, with Tesla's Model 3 leading registrations and closely challenging the Peugeot 2008 for annual leadership. Globally, gasoline-only vehicle sales fell below 50% of the market for the first time in the first half of 2026, as electric and hybrid models expanded their share.

Other regional highlights include Mexico reaching a historic high of 1.14 million light vehicle sales between January and September, and Mercedes-Benz India reporting its strongest-ever nine-month sales performance with 15,190 units. Meanwhile, Dacia is adjusting production at its Mioveni plant in Romania, implementing temporary shutdowns and voluntary departure programs to align with new digital and robotic strategies.
