BYD selects Inokom as local assembly partner in Malaysia
BYD has officially appointed Inokom Corporation, a subsidiary of Sime Motors, as its local assembly partner for completely knocked-down (CKD) vehicles in Malaysia. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at BYD’s global headquarters in Shenzhen, China.
Inokom’s facility in Kulim, Kedah, was selected due to its existing vehicle assembly infrastructure, experienced workforce, and established capabilities in electric vehicle production. This strategic shift follows previous industry speculation regarding BYD’s manufacturing plans in the country, as the company opted for contract assembly rather than building a dedicated manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim.
BYD Malaysia Managing Director Jacob Ma stated that local assembly is central to the company’s long-term commitment to the Malaysian market. The collaboration aims to bring BYD’s new energy vehicle and battery technology expertise closer to local consumers while supporting the development of Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem.
