BYD Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute to launch in China

BYD is preparing to launch its Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute in the Chinese domestic market under the Fang Cheng Bao brand. While the vehicle has been available in export markets like New Zealand since early 2025, the Chinese version will be branded as the Shark with Fang Cheng Bao badging.

Technical filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology indicate the domestic model features a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a dual-motor plug-in hybrid layout. The setup includes a 170kW front motor and a 150kW rear motor, utilizing a lithium iron phosphate battery from BYD’s FinDreams division. The vehicle maintains dimensions similar to the export version, with a length of 5,457mm and a wheelbase of 3,260mm.
