BYD Shark pickup earns five-star Euro NCAP safety rating

The BYD Shark DMO plug-in hybrid pickup has achieved a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. The evaluation, which built upon 2025 ANCAP testing with additional European assessments, reported high scores for adult occupant protection (82%), child protection (86%), and safety assistance systems (87%).

Despite the top rating, testers identified an issue where one side curtain airbag failed to deploy correctly during an impact test, resulting in a penalty. BYD is reportedly working on modifications to address this for future units. The Shark features a 1.5 turbo engine paired with electric propulsion, delivering approximately 430 HP.

In addition to the Shark's safety success, BYD is expanding its European lineup with the ATTO 8, a seven-seat electric SUV featuring a 115-kWh Blade battery, expected to launch in 2027.
