BYD sets European flash‑charging record with 1500 kW demo in Zagreb

Chinese automaker BYD installed one of the first Flash Charging stations in Europe at its service centre on Samoborska road in Zagreb. During a demonstration the Denza Z9 GT battery was charged from 10 % to 97 % in 8 minutes 53 seconds, and from 10 % to 90 % in 8 minutes 30 seconds, showing a peak power of 1 500 kW. The system can raise a battery from 10 % to 70 % in about five minutes, making electric‑vehicle charging comparable in time to refuelling a gasoline car.

The technology uses a “zero‑gravity” cable arrangement, plug‑and‑charge authentication and internal energy‑storage banks to deliver megawatt‑level power without overloading the local grid. It performed similarly in a parallel demonstration in Belgrade, where a Denza was charged to 97 % in 8 minutes 54 seconds. BYD plans to roll out roughly 3 000 Flash Charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027 and 20 000 worldwide by 2026, supporting its Blade 2.0 battery architecture that remains stable down to –30 °C.
