BYD tests Atto 2 SUV in India and prepares August humanoid robot debut

Chinese automaker BYD has begun road testing its midsize Atto 2 SUV on Indian streets. The prototype, shown in camouflage, reveals a sleek front fascia with slim LED headlights, alloy wheels and black cladding. Inside, the test vehicle features a black interior, a 12.8‑inch rotatable touchscreen, digital driver display, panoramic sunroof and a suite of driver‑assist technologies. BYD offers the Atto 2 as both a pure‑electric model – with 45.1 kWh or 64.8 kWh batteries delivering up to 430 km WLTP range and 201 hp – and a plug‑in hybrid version that pairs a 1.5‑litre petrol engine with 7.8 kWh or 18 18 kWh batteries, producing up to 212 hp and a WLTP range of up to 1,000 km.

In parallel, BYD announced it will unveil functional humanoid robots in August at its Di Space showroom. The interactive exhibit will let visitors engage with the robots, which the company says will be the first commercially viable humanoids in China. Executive Vice‑President Stella Li highlighted BYD’s battery and manufacturing expertise as key to scaling the robots, positioning the move as part of China’s strategic push in robotics and AI.
