Suzuki to launch e SKY mini EV in Japan

Suzuki Motor Corp. has announced the launch of its first mini electric vehicle (EV), the e SKY, scheduled for release in Japan on November 16. Positioned to compete with Chinese manufacturer BYD, the e SKY is priced between 2.12 million and 2.79 million yen, making it one of the most affordable mini EVs in the Japanese market.

Built on the dedicated HEARTECT-e platform, the vehicle features a 26kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and a custom-developed eAxle. It achieves a driving range of 310km (WLTC mode) and a class-leading energy efficiency of 97Wh/km. Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki stated the development focused on the concept of ‘Easy to Switch,’ aiming to provide a driving experience similar to gasoline-powered vehicles to encourage seamless transitions for existing users.

The e SKY will be available in three grades: the entry-level ‘A’ (order-to-make), the balanced ‘G’, and the premium ‘X’. To support the rollout, Suzuki plans to expand its charging infrastructure, aiming to increase rapid chargers at its dealerships to 250 locations within the year. The company has set a monthly sales target of 1,000 units.
