BYD targets 2027 for solid-state battery vehicle debut

BYD is advancing its electric vehicle strategy through significant technological developments and market expansion. The company has confirmed that its first solid-state battery-equipped model is expected to debut in 2027. These initial models, likely from premium sub-brands such as Denza or Yangwang, will serve as technology demonstrators rather than mass-market products. The company aims for an energy density of 400 Wh/kg, roughly double that of current Blade batteries, with full-scale mass production targeted for around 2030.

In the premium segment, BYD’s sub-brand Denza is launching several new models. The Denza Z9S sedan is set for a Chinese market debut in late September 2026, offering high performance and range of up to 1,100 km under the CLTC cycle. Additionally, the Denza N8L large SUV features a 130.15 kWh Blade battery, promising up to 960 km of range and ultra-fast charging capabilities.

Regionally, BYD continues to see rapid growth in Europe and Italy. In Italy, the brand’s market share has increased significantly, with the company aiming to reach a car park of 100,000 units and secure a position in the top five automotive brands by 2027.
