BYD unveils autonomous drift system for Denza Z9

BYD has introduced an autonomous drift mode for its Denza Z9 sports electric sedan. The feature lets the car perform controlled drifts without driver input to steering, acceleration or braking; the driver only draws the desired path on the central display and the software executes the maneuver. The system runs on BYD’s e³ platform, which uses three electric motors and can control torque to each wheel individually. It continuously monitors speed, wheel angle, tire grip, body position, weight distribution, torque per motor, lateral acceleration and vehicle inclination to keep the car on the programmed trajectory.

The Denza Z9 version delivers 1,582 hp and accelerates from 0 to 97 km/h in 1.96 seconds. BYD advises using the drift function only in controlled environments because the system does not automatically avoid obstacles. Rear‑wheel control and active rear steering are employed to maintain the drift precisely.
