BYD unveils Dolphin compact hybrid and plans 300 ultra‑fast chargers in Spain

Chinese automaker BYD introduced the Dolphin G DM‑i, the first compact (B‑segment) plug‑in hybrid for the European market. The model starts at €18,700 and offers a combined range of more than 1,000 km, with a 7.42 kWh Blade Battery delivering up to 40 km in pure electric mode and a total output of 176 hp (212 hp in higher trims). The vehicle was test‑driven on Berlin streets, highlighting its driver‑monitoring system and premium interior fittings.

In China, BYD’s new luxury sedan, the Seal, recorded 65,000 sales within 30 hours of opening orders, driven by its 905 km electric range, up to 693 hp and a price from ¥196,900 (about €25,365). The rapid uptake reflects strong price‑to‑equipment value despite a 2‑3‑month delivery backlog caused by limited Blade Battery 2.0 production.

Through its premium brand Denza, BYD announced a plan to build 300 ultra‑fast charging stations in Spain (plus 50 in Portugal) delivering 1,500 kW per point, capable of charging a vehicle from 10 % to 97 % in nine minutes. The network, using CCS2 connectors, will be operational by the end of 2027 and is part of BYD’s broader expansion in Spain, where it sold 4,518 cars in May 2026 and has become the sixth‑most popular brand among private buyers.
