At the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hanover, BYD announced an aggressive expansion strategy for the European commercial vehicle market. The company plans to launch its first heavy-duty electric truck, the ETT 44, in Europe next year, with a target for full-scale local manufacturing to mitigate potential trade tariffs and shorten supply chains. BYD executive vice president Stella Li stated that the company aims to become a “European company” by producing all vehicles sold in the region locally.

To support this transition, BYD is developing a comprehensive ecosystem for fleet operators, including financing, solar-powered charging infrastructure, and mobile roadside assistance. The ETT 44 features a 651 kWh Blade Battery and supports megawatt charging, which can charge the vehicle from 20% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes. The truck has also become the first long-haul electric model to receive a Euro NCAP rating.

In addition to heavy-duty trucks, BYD is expanding its passenger car manufacturing footprint in Europe, with a new factory in Szeged, Hungary, expected to begin mass production next year. Other manufacturers at the show, including Volvo, Scania, and SANY, also showcased advancements in electric truck range and safety, highlighting a highly competitive shift toward zero-emission commercial transport.
