Bydgoszcz and Jawor boost renewable energy with new solar farms and heat‑pump upgrades

The city of Bydgoszcz is preparing a 0.7 MW photovoltaic farm on the former wastewater‑treatment site on Stanisława Horno‑Popławskiego street and a 1 MW solar plant on Inowrocławska street, accompanied by a 4 MWh storage unit. The projects, financed in part by EU Recovery Plan funds, will supply municipal buildings that cannot host their own installations and support a fleet of solar‑powered electric buses. Bydgoszcz has already equipped more than 70 municipal facilities with rooftop PV systems, generating roughly 1.2 GWh per year and saving about 1.2 million zł annually.

In the Silesian municipality of Jawor, a second phase of the “Renewable Energy Expansion” program has secured €1.35 million (≈1.35 million zł) of EU funding, bringing total external financing for the two phases to over €2.1 million. The plan includes installing a photovoltaic array on the sports hall, ground‑source heat pumps in two primary schools, a public preschool and several other public buildings, and adding battery storage at the municipal office, hall and preschool. These measures aim to reduce operating costs, increase energy independence and lower environmental impact.

Both initiatives are part of broader regional efforts to create self‑balancing energy clusters and promote sustainable public‑service infrastructure.
