Bydgoszcz and Toruń to sign cooperation declaration in Ostromecko

Academic, cultural, and scientific representatives from Bydgoszcz and Toruń are set to meet in Ostromecko on October 27 for a conference titled ‘Bydgoszcz – Toruń: relations through the centuries’. The event is part of a series called ‘Different paths – common opportunities’ aimed at fostering regional development through constructive debate.

A key outcome of the conference will be the signing of the ‘Ostromecko Declaration’. This document serves as a joint appeal from scientists and cultural figures to authorities and the public, advocating for a new standard of public debate based on respect and trust. The initiative is supported by regional universities, including Nicolaus Copernicus University and Kazimierz Wielki University.

While the conference seeks to build modern cooperation, local political tensions persist. Recent regional government discussions have included proposals to merge the Bydgoszcz pulmonary hospital with a debt-ridden hospital in Grudziądz, a move facing opposition from trade unions and Bydgoszcz local officials.
