Bydgoszcz court sentences Colombian national for fatal stabbing in Nowe

The Bydgoszcz District Court has issued a sentence in a high-profile murder case involving a 41-year-old Polish man, Grzegorz M. The perpetrator, a 32-year-old Colombian national identified as Richard M., was sentenced to eight years in prison and ordered to pay 10,000 PLN in compensation to the victim's family.

The fatal incident occurred on the night of July 5–6, 2025, in the town of Nowe. A confrontation between a group of Polish citizens and a group of Colombian nationals, who were employed at local meat processing plants, escalated into a brawl in the town square. During the fight, Richard M. fatally stabbed Grzegorz M. with a knife.

Following the stabbing, several individuals attempted to flee, leading to a police chase and a vehicle collision. Police initially detained 13 suspects. The court proceedings were held behind closed doors, and the specific reasons for the extraordinary mitigation of the sentence were not disclosed due to the secrecy of the trial and the verdict's justification.
