Bydgoszcz ranks first in national driver-friendly city survey

Bydgoszcz has secured first place in a national ranking of “driver-friendly cities” among municipalities with over 300,000 residents. The city outperformed other major locations, including Lublin and Szczecin. The ranking, based on data from Yanosik, Oponeo.pl, and municipal institutions, evaluated seven categories including safety, travel comfort, and vehicle usage costs. Bydgoszcz performed particularly well in areas regarding average travel speeds, collision rates, parking fees, insurance costs, and tire replacement expenses.

Local officials attribute this success to ongoing infrastructure investments, such as improved street lighting, new road construction, and the renovation of main streets and viaducts. While these projects cause temporary disruptions, they are intended to enhance long-term safety and traffic flow for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.

In conjunction with these infrastructure efforts, the Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Bydgoszcz and the JUMPER Foundation organized a road safety prevention event at the Old Market Square. The initiative, titled “Safely Every Day,” utilized crash simulators for bicycles and electric scooters to demonstrate the importance of protective gear. The event also featured workshops on first aid and demonstrations on the importance of reflective elements for pedestrian visibility.
