BYD’s Australian push marked by $8.8 million sale of 888 Doncaster Road office

An office at 888 Doncaster Road in East Doncaster was sold for $8.8 million to veteran auto dealer Darren Bourke. The property will become the Australian base for Harmony Automotive Group, the official distributor of Chinese electric‑vehicle maker BYD.

BYD is rapidly expanding in Australia, accounting for 14.4 % of all new‑car sales in June – just 243 vehicles fewer than Toyota. Electric vehicles made up nearly one‑quarter of the 140,058 vehicles sold that month, up from 8.4 % in January. BYD’s Sealion 7 and Shark 6 were among the five best‑selling models nationwide, and the company now operates through 110 dealerships, almost double the 60 it had a year earlier.

Allard Shelton agents Joseph Walton and Tony Nguyen handled the real‑estate deal, noting it signals confidence in the Melbourne property market. The sale sits alongside other high‑value Melbourne office transactions, underscoring strong demand for premium commercial space.
