Byron Donalds and David Jolly compete in Florida governor race
The race for the Florida governorship is intensifying as Republican U.S. Representative Byron Donalds competes against Democrat David Jolly. The election follows term limits for current Governor Ron DeSantis.
Polling indicates a highly competitive contest. One St. Pete Polls survey placed Donalds at 44% and Jolly at 43%, while a Change Research survey showed Jolly leading with 48% to Donalds’ 46%. Donalds has campaigned on a platform of rejecting socialism and protecting the ‘Florida Dream,’ receiving an endorsement from Donald Trump. Conversely, Jolly has received support from former Attorney General Eric Holder.
As a Black candidate, Donalds’ candidacy has sparked discussions regarding racial dynamics within the Republican electorate. If elected, he would become Florida’s first Black governor.
