ByteDance secures $29.6 billion loan for AI expansion
ByteDance has reportedly secured a $29.6 billion unsecured loan from nearly 30 banks to fund its artificial intelligence initiatives. The funding amount exceeded the company’s initial $20 billion target following strong interest from lenders.
This transaction marks the second-largest loan in Asia this year, trailing a $40 billion raise by SoftBank in March. Because the loan is unsecured, sources indicate it reflects high lender confidence in ByteDance’s creditworthiness.
The capital is intended to finance projects outside of China, including commitments to purchase capacity at various data centers across Southeast Asia. Analysts note that ByteDance is positioning itself to compete with both local and global hyperscalers in the fields of AI data centers and multimodal AI models.
