Bytom Completes Multi‑Million Zloty Renovation of St. Wojciech Church
The Church of St. Wojciech, one of Bytom’s oldest sacred monuments dating from the mid‑15th century, completed a comprehensive renovation that began in December 2024. The project, costing nearly 4.5 million zł, restored the medieval foundations, tower, façade, windows, doors, roof, stained‑glass windows, stone and wooden floors, and added new lightning‑protection, fire‑safety, video‑monitoring and anti‑burglary systems.
The work was carried out by the Kraków‑based firm Des under the supervision of the Silesian Voivodeship Heritage Conservator and archaeologists from the Upper Silesian Museum. The final hand‑over ceremony took place on 5 August 2026, attended by the contractor, representatives of the City of Bytom, Deputy Mayor Magdalena Górak and parish priest Fr. Remigiusz Langer. The restoration was praised for preserving the church’s historic fabric while modernising its safety infrastructure.
