Bytom Economic Activity Zone project fails to attract investors

The Economic Activity Zone (SAG), a joint initiative between Bytom and Piekary Śląskie established in the late 1990s, has seen mixed results. While the portion located in Piekary Śląskie is considered a success with approximately 20 active companies, the Bytom section has failed to attract significant investment.

In Bytom, despite utilizing European PHARE funds to prepare approximately 3.9 hectares of land near the northern bypass, intended developments such as motels, parking facilities, and warehouses never materialized. Investors who entered lease agreements failed to begin construction, leaving the site vacant for years. Consequently, the area was repurposed in 2007 to house the Municipal Road and Bridge Management base.
