BYU Basketball hires former NBA assistant Patrick Mutombo
BYU head men’s basketball coach Kevin Young has announced the hiring of Patrick Mutombo as an assistant coach. Mutombo joins the staff to fill the vacancy left by Will Voigt, who departed for Boise State.
Mutombo brings over a decade of professional experience, including ten years as an NBA assistant for teams such as the Denver Nuggets, Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, and Memphis Grizzlies. Notably, he was part of the Toronto Raptors' coaching staff during their 2019 NBA championship season. He also has experience as a head coach for the Raptors' G League affiliate, the Raptors 905.
In addition to his NBA tenure, Mutombo has served as an assistant coach for USA Basketball and worked alongside Kevin Young during the 2022-23 season with the Phoenix Suns. His coaching resume includes work with high-profile players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker.
