BYU eyes Big 12 title with Bachmeier and Martin

BYU football enters the upcoming season with high expectations, aiming for a Big 12 title led by a productive backfield tandem of quarterback Bear Bachmeier and running back LJ Martin.

Bachmeier, who transferred from Stanford, had a breakout freshman campaign, throwing for 3,033 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 527 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He proved particularly effective on plays between 10 and 20 yards, ranking second nationally in passing yards for that specific distance. As a runner, he ranked 12th among quarterbacks in touchdowns and 7th among Power 4 quarterbacks in rushing EPA.

LJ Martin, who led the Big 12 in rushing during his previous season, returns to bolster the offense. The duo's combination of passing and rushing ability is expected to be a central component of offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick’s scheme as the Cougars attempt to build on their recent success.
