BYU Law to launch Religious Liberty Clinic

Brigham Young University (BYU) Law School has announced the launch of a new Religious Liberty Clinic, scheduled to welcome its first students during the winter 2027 semester. Directed by Associate Professor Kelsey Baer Flores, who previously helped establish Harvard Law School’s Religious Freedom Clinic, the program will provide students with hands-on experience in religious freedom litigation.

Students will focus on drafting amicus curiae, or “friend of the court,” briefs for state and federal appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. The clinic aims to serve religious organizations and coalitions representing diverse faith traditions, including religious minority communities.

With this addition, BYU joins several other prominent American law schools that have established similar programs, including Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Notre Dame, the University of Texas, Pepperdine, and St. Thomas.
