Búzios field sets record natural gas exports
The Búzios field, located in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, achieved record natural gas exports in August. Petrobras reported that average monthly exports exceeded 10 million cubic meters per day (m³/d), surpassing the previous record of 9.1 million m³/d set in March 2026.
A daily export peak of 14.1 million m³/d was also recorded on August 6. Petrobras attributed these gains to the optimization of existing production units rather than new systems. Key initiatives include a modernization program for gas treatment plants on platforms P-74, P-75, P-76, and P-77, which involved replacing CO2 removal membranes. This project has increased the export capacity of these units from approximately 1.5 million to 3 million m³/d per platform.
Looking ahead, Petrobras expects export capacity to continue expanding with the planned operation of platforms P-78 and P-79 by 2027. The company aims to have eight of its twelve planned platforms equipped with gas export capabilities by the end of the field's development, including the Búzios 12 unit, which is expected to begin operations in 2032.
