C-17 Globemaster III aircraft spotted over Washington, D.C
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III, accompanied by fighter jets, was observed performing low-altitude loops over the Washington, D.C. area. Aircraft-tracking data identified the military transport aircraft using the callsign VOLT15. While the unusual flight patterns prompted speculation regarding a planned military photo or video operation, no official confirmation of the purpose has been released, and there are no indications of a security incident.
In a related development regarding the C-17 community, Royal Air Force Captain Sam Froggatt has become the first RAF pilot selected for the U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III Demonstration Team. Froggatt joined Joint Base Charleston in June 2023 as part of a three-year exchange program intended to strengthen partnerships between allied air forces. After completing the U.S. Air Force instructor and evaluator certification, he was selected from a pool of pilots to showcase the aircraft's tactical capabilities through public demonstrations.
