C. Joseph Vijay sworn in as Tamil Nadu's 13th chief minister
Actor C. Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the 13th chief minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single largest party in the state assembly with 108 seats, ending the long‑standing alternation of power between the DMK and AIADMK. TVK formed a coalition government with the Indian National Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Indian Union Muslim League and Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam, giving it a majority in the 234‑member assembly. The governor has asked Vijay to seek a vote of confidence by May 13, 2026.
Actress Trisha Krishnan attended the swearing‑in ceremony with her mother, Uma Krishna, and later posted a photograph of herself in an aqua‑blue silk saree with the caption “love is always louder.” The post sparked social‑media attention, linking the personal support of the actress to the political event.
