C. S. Lewis family upset over Meryl Streep casting in Narnia film

The family of author C. S. Lewis is reportedly upset regarding the casting for the upcoming film adaptation of ‘The Magician’s Nephew’. The production, part of a Netflix series based on ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, has cast actress Meryl Streep to voice the character Aslan.

Aslan is widely viewed by Christian readers as a representation of Jesus Christ. Ted Baehr, founder of MovieGuide, stated that the decision to have a woman voice the character is viewed by the Lewis family and many fans as a theological issue. Baehr described the casting as a ‘tremendous heresy’ because of the character's symbolic role as a father figure representing Christ.

Additionally, the Lewis family is reportedly seeking to regain control over The C. S. Lewis Company, which entered into an agreement with Netflix in 2018 to produce Narnia films and series.
