C64 opposition coalition calls for DRC march against third term

The C64 opposition coalition in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has called for a national march on September 15, 2026, to protest potential constitutional changes. Led by Jean-Marc Kabund, the movement aims to march toward the Palais du peuple in Kinshasa and other provincial capitals to oppose any amendments that would allow President Félix Tshisekedi to seek a third term.

In Lubumbashi, the interim mayor, Joyce Tunda Kazadi, has officially banned the planned march. The city administration cited an existing ban on public demonstrations in Lubumbashi that has been in place since July. Despite the prohibition, the C64 branch in Haut-Katanga has announced its intention to proceed with the march, arguing that the ban violates constitutional rights to freedom of assembly.
