Ca’ Foscari University appoints Marco Sgarbi as new rector
Marco Sgarbi has officially begun his term as the rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice for the 2026-2032 period. At 44 years old, Sgarbi is the 24th rector in the institution's history and its youngest to date. He assumed office following a symbolic handover from the outgoing rector, Tiziana Lippiello.
One of Sgarbi’s primary announced measures is to increase the ISEE threshold for the ‘no tax area’ to 30,000 euros, an initiative requiring an annual investment of over 650,000 euros. The goal is to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent talented students from enrolling.
The new administration also plans to implement a unified support structure to assist students from orientation through to their first job, specifically targeting those at risk of dropping out, including international students, student workers, and those with disabilities. Additionally, the strategic vision includes a multi-campus model involving Venice, Mestre, and Treviso, and the creation of an Institute for Future Studies to address ecological, digital, and social transitions.
