Ca Mau officials recommend criminal probe into public land leasing violations

The Ca Mau Provincial Inspectorate has recommended transferring case files to the Ca Mau Provincial Police Investigation Agency to investigate potential criminal violations regarding the management and leasing of public land. The investigation focused on the management of approximately 512 hectares of land under Project 773, previously managed by the Vinh Trach Dong Commune People's Committee (now Hiep Thanh Ward).

Inspectors found that approximately 122 hectares of salt production land were leased to households without public auctions. Additionally, authorities failed to monitor lease contracts and did not fully collect or remit lease revenues to the state budget. These management failures resulted in a budget loss of over 930 million VND and an estimated 3 billion VND in wasted land resources, totaling a loss of more than 3.9 billion VND.

The inspectorate has called for accountability measures, including reviews of the responsibilities of the Chairpersons of the Vinh Trach Dong Commune People's Committee for various periods between 2006 and 2025.
