Ca Mau Police warn of security risks when using public WiFi
The Ca Mau Provincial Police have issued a warning regarding the risks of using public WiFi in locations such as coffee shops, airports, shopping centers, and schools. While these networks offer convenience, they pose significant information security risks if not properly secured.
Authorities warned that cybercriminals may use tactics such as creating fake WiFi networks with names similar to official ones to deceive users. Once connected to insecure networks, users may be targeted by attacks designed to monitor or steal personal data, including passwords, emails, images, and other private information.
To mitigate these risks, the police recommend that citizens avoid logging into bank accounts or performing important financial transactions while using public WiFi. Instead, users should utilize mobile data or personal networks for sensitive activities. Additional security measures suggested include verifying WiFi network names, setting strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication (2FA), and regularly updating software.
