Caacupé and Piribebuy residents protest roadwork stoppage

Residents in the departments of Caacupé and Piribebuy are protesting the halt of a 16-kilometer asphalt paving project. Demonstrators expressed concern after observing that machinery from the contractor, Iniciativas Constructivas SA, was being withdrawn from the site.

Local inhabitants claim that company officials instructed them to move all equipment to the city of Luque. The protesters attribute the work stoppage to a lack of promised disbursements from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC).

This development follows a recent visit to the site by President Santiago Peña, Vice President Pedro Alliana, and Minister of Works Claudia Centurión, during which officials reaffirmed their commitment to the project's deadlines. In response to the stoppage, protesters have conducted intermittent road closures and announced plans to block Route PY02 at the entrance to Caacupé until a solution is reached.
