Regional water management and humanitarian aid updates

Various regional developments regarding water infrastructure and humanitarian efforts are underway across the Americas.

In the Dominican Republic, the government has established a humanitarian aid center at the Navy Base ‘27 de Febrero’ to collect donations, including food and medical supplies, for communities in Colombia affected by a recent earthquake. Additionally, the Corporation of Aqueducts and Sewers of Santo Domingo (CAASD) reported that drought conditions have caused water supply systems to operate below 50% capacity. In Santiago, Coraasan announced a project to replace a 12-inch water main with a 16-inch ductile iron line to improve service for 35,000 residents in Villa González. Meanwhile, in Puerto Plata, Coraapplata has initiated legal action against the company Triple AAA to rescind its contract due to alleged service failures and non-compliance.

In Mexico, Monterrey’s Water and Drainage Services launched a campaign to collect domestic cooking oil to prevent sewage pipe blockages. In Puerto Rico, environmental and consumer agencies have launched a joint operation to identify and stop the illegal sale of water from unauthorized wells.
