CAASD ordered to pay RD$888 million to AAA Dominicana

The Court of Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo has ordered the Corporación de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (CAASD) to pay RD$888.3 million to AAA Dominicana.

The total amount includes RD$352.79 million for unpaid invoices related to water collection services, RD$134.67 million in indemnification, and over RD$395 million in interest and legal expenses accumulated over nearly five years. The court determined that CAASD breached its contractual civil responsibility toward the company, whose contract ended in 2021.

Under the ruling, CAASD must pay a monthly contractual interest of 2% on the unpaid invoice amount until the debt is settled. Additionally, a 5.25% annual interest rate applies to the indemnification amount starting from the notification of the final arbitral award. The decision also mandates the payment of RD$4.3 million in legal costs to the attorneys of AAA Dominicana and the Inter-American Water and Services Society (INASSA).
