Cabbage prices fluctuate in Bosnia and Herzegovina during fermentation season

As the cabbage fermentation season begins, prices for cabbage in Bosnia and Herzegovina are showing significant variation depending on location and variety. In Bijeljina, cabbage is priced at 1 KM per kilogram, while in Banja Luka, prices have risen to 1.5 KM per kilogram from 1 KM in late September.

Market prices for standard cabbage are approximately 0.85 KM per kilogram, but Chinese cabbage is notably more expensive, reaching up to 6.6 KM per kilogram. Chinese cabbage is distinguished by its rapid fermentation process, which takes between one and five days.

Bulk purchasing options include bags of 10–13 kilograms for 10–12 KM and bags of 15–20 kilograms for 13–15 KM. For households preparing 50-liter barrels, which require 25–30 kilograms of cabbage, total costs can range from 20 KM when buying in bulk to 45 KM at higher retail rates.
