Cabell County Schools to launch four new middle‑school sports in 2027

The Cabell County Board of Education approved the addition of middle‑school baseball, softball, boys’ soccer and girls’ soccer, slated to begin in 2027. Baseball and softball will start in the spring of 2027, while both soccer programs will launch in the fall of that year, expanding athletic offerings at all Cabell County middle schools to a total of twelve sports.

Superintendent Keith Thomas said the expansion aims to increase student engagement, improve attendance, strengthen school pride and promote lifelong healthy habits. Board President Josh Pauley noted the new programs will support the district’s strong high‑school athletics by giving students more skill‑development opportunities. Tryouts will be held before each program’s launch, and interested youth can register via an online survey.
