Cabello and Romero lead Vaurien class at Open de España in Vigo

Pablo Cabello and Óscar Romero of the Real Club Náutico de Vigo have taken a provisional lead in the Vaurien class during the first day of the Open de España de Vaurien and 420. The competition, part of the Semana Abanca 2026, is being held in the waters of the Cíes Islands and organized by the Club Marítimo de Vigo.

Despite southwest winds ranging between 4 and 8 knots, the fleet completed two races. Cabello, a former world champion, and Romero secured second and third place finishes. They are closely followed by the current Spanish champions, Pedro Fernández and Carolina Iglesias, who recorded a first and a fifth place.

In the 420 class, Alma Chamorro and Laura Pérez Moya of Marítimo de Canido hold the top position after a fifth and a first place finish. They are currently tied on points with Paco Riveras and Helena Alcaraz from the Real Club Náutico de Vigo. The final decisive races are scheduled to take place on Sunday.
