Cabildo de Lanzarote launches €200,000 heritage grant; Canary Islands approves €325,000 artist mobility aid

The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has opened its first public call for subsidies to conserve and rehabilitate privately owned cultural heritage on the two islands. An initial budget of €200,000 will cover up to 50 % of eligible costs, with a maximum of €50,000 per beneficiary, for works on buildings classified as Bien de Interés Cultural or recognised for their historic value. President Oswaldo Betancort said the aid is “a support for those who assume responsibility for preserving historic buildings that form part of the islands’ identity, memory and future.”

Separately, the Government of the Canary Islands has resolved its first mobility package for artists and cultural professionals. A total of 253 proposals were selected, receiving roughly €325,000 to fund travel, accommodation, transport of equipment and related expenses for projects carried out between November 2025 and April 2026. Culture minister Migdalia Machín described the measure as a contribution to “equality of opportunities between cultural professionals in the islands and the rest of the state.” The funded activities span nearly thirty countries across Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia, supporting tours, residencies, festivals, conferences and other international engagements.
