Cable car projects advance in Tegucigalpa and El Salvador
In El Salvador, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) announced that the assembly of the first stations for a new aerocable system is scheduled to begin in the first two weeks of November. The project involves 23 metal structures supporting 153 cabins over a 3.5-kilometer route. The system will include four stations located in Zacamil, the University of El Salvador area, the Government Center, and the Historic Center of San Salvador. Officials estimate the trip will take approximately 15 minutes, benefiting between 30,000 and 40,000 people daily, with service expected to begin in 2027.
In Honduras, a proposed cable car system for Tegucigalpa remains in the preliminary study and technical validation phase. The project is a joint effort between the central government, through the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Transport (SIT), and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE). The plan aims to connect high-traffic areas such as Arturo Quezada, 21 de Febrero, and the Farmer and Artisan Fair to mitigate urban congestion. However, authorities have not yet established an official construction timeline, and some citizens have called for greater transparency regarding the project's feasibility.
