Cabo Frio authorities shut down irregular lodging

Authorities in Cabo Frio have shut down an irregular lodging establishment on Avenida Almirante Barroso following an inspection by Procon. The building was fully closed and evacuated after officials discovered a lack of mandatory documentation, including operating licenses, occupancy permits, fire department certificates, and Cadastur registration.

Inspectors identified significant safety hazards, such as steep, narrow stairs without handrails, a lack of emergency exits, and no fire extinguishers. Additionally, the property lacked adequate ventilation and air circulation. The inspection also revealed that unauthorized construction was being conducted on the premises without municipal permits or approval from the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (Iphan).

During the operation, which involved the Municipal Civil Guard and the General Superintendency of Private Works Inspection, agents also noted the presence of children in the lodging without the access controls required by the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA). The owners were taken to the police station following the findings.
