Cabo San Lucas: 18-year-old dies after falling from amusement ride

An 18-year-old woman, identified as Gabriela Rodríguez Tezoco, died following an accident on a mechanical ride during the Cabo San Lucas Traditional Festival in Baja California Sur, Mexico. The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, October 20, on an attraction known as ‘El Péndulo’ (The Pendulum).

Videos circulating on social media appear to show the victim’s shoulder restraint lifting while the ride was in motion, causing her to fall from her seat. Emergency responders from the Mexican Red Cross provided immediate aid at the fairgrounds before transporting her to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The Baja California Sur State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) has launched a criminal investigation to determine the exact cause of the fall and establish legal responsibilities. Authorities are examining whether there were mechanical failures, safety protocol violations, or deficiencies in the ride's restraint systems.

In response to the tragedy, the Los Cabos City Council suspended the ride and ordered safety inspections for all other attractions at the festival. Additionally, the municipal government replaced the head of the Municipal Civil Protection and Risk Management Directorate with Diego Camacho Hale to ensure transparency and cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
