Cabo Verde Airlines to launch new Sal-Recife route to Brazil
Cabo Verde Airlines (TACV) will launch a new direct flight route between the island of Sal and Recife, Brazil, on December 12. This expansion provides two weekly connections between Cape Verde and Brazil, complementing the Praia-Recife service that began in May.
The airline aims to use this new route to strengthen Sal’s position as an international aviation hub, facilitating travel between Africa, Europe, and the Americas. CEO Armindo Sousa stated the move reinforces the company’s growth strategy and historical ties between the two nations.
This expansion occurs amid significant financial challenges for the state-owned carrier. Cape Verde’s Transport Minister, João do Carmo, has noted that the airline is operating in a permanent negative financial position, prompting the government to consider restructuring options to ensure long-term sustainability.
