Cabo Verde and Gambia sign trade and investment cooperation deal

Cabo Verde and Gambia have signed a trade and investment cooperation protocol aimed at strengthening economic ties across several key sectors. The agreement, signed by the Sotavento Chamber of Commerce (CCS) and the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), facilitates business missions, trade forums, and capacity-building activities to improve market access for both nations.

A primary focus of the cooperation involves the construction sector, with Gambia seeking to increase imports of aggregates, specifically basalt, from Cabo Verde for infrastructure development.

In the agricultural sector, the partnership explores using Gambia’s natural resources—including land and water—as a production base for Cabo Verdean entrepreneurs. This model aims to supply the Cabo Verdean tourism industry with more regular and cost-effective agri-food products. Discussions also highlighted the potential for digitalizing agricultural supply chains and increasing flight frequencies to support trade and tourism.
