Cabo Verde announces major educational reforms for 2026/2027 school year
The 2026/2027 academic year has commenced in Cabo Verde with a series of announced reforms aimed at restructuring the national education system. During the official opening at Fulgêncio Tavares Secondary School in São Domingos, the Minister of Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Arnaldo Brito, signaled a shift toward a new educational cycle.
Proposed changes include a revision of the assessment model, the expansion of school hours, reforms to secondary education, and a potential reorganization of public higher education. Minister Brito noted that while the country has successfully expanded school access over the last 50 years, the current system requires rethinking to address existing fragilities. He emphasized a move toward a broader conception of education rather than focusing solely on instruction.
