Cabo Verde climbs three places to 64th in FIFA ranking after World Cup debut
Cabo Verde's national football team moved up three positions in the latest FIFA world ranking, reaching 64th place. The rise follows the country's historic performance at the 2026 World Cup, where it reached the round of 16 – its first appearance in the tournament's final stage – before losing 3‑2 to Argentina in Miami.
The update also saw Spain take the top spot on the ranking, overtaking Argentina after winning the tournament. Portugal slipped from fifth to seventh, while Brazil and Morocco moved into the top six. Within the Lusophone group, Cabo Verde is now the second‑best nation after Brazil, ahead of Angola, Mozambique, Guinea‑Bissau and other Portuguese‑speaking countries.
