Cape Verde’s Vozinha eyes club move after World Cup breakout

Cape Verde goalkeeper Josimar "Vozinha" Diá became a surprise star at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, recording a clean‑sheet against Spain and delivering decisive saves versus Uruguay and Argentina. His performances turned him into a viral sensation, swelling his Instagram following from roughly 50,000 to over 29 million.

In a CBS interview the 40‑year‑old said he still wants to play one or two more seasons and will only join a club that values him as a footballer, not as a marketing figure. He is currently a free agent after his contract with Portuguese second‑division side GD Chaves expired.

Chilean champions Colo‑Colo have allegedly sent a formal offer, and the club is in talks with Vozinha’s representatives, while other suitors such as Inter Miami and South‑American teams have also shown interest. Vozinha reiterated that he will not sign solely for commercial exposure.

His World Cup fame has also lifted Cape Verde’s profile abroad. Online searches for the island nation spiked by thousands of percent and tourism bookings rose sharply – up 33 % in one week in the United States and over 800 % in other markets – prompting travel operators to anticipate a new tourism boom for the country.
