Cabo Verde commemorates 2026 World Cup qualification with coin and stamp

Cape Verde's government has issued a commemorative 200‑escudo coin and a special postage stamp to mark the nation's historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The decree, published on 3 June, limits legal tender use to 5 000 escudos per payment for most parties, while allowing the central bank and authorised institutions to handle larger amounts.

The coin features the national team’s nickname, “Tubarões Azuis”, along with football imagery and maritime symbols, while the stamp series celebrates the first World Cup appearance and will be released in denominations of 40, 60 and 200 escudos. Limited‑edition versions in gold, silver and cupronickel are also planned for collectors.
