Cabo Verde reports 177 Covid-19 cases since start of year

Cabo Verde has recorded 177 cumulative cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the year, according to the National Institute of Public Health (INSP). The majority of these cases are concentrated on Santiago island, particularly in the capital city of Praia, which has 82 recorded cases.

Other significant concentrations include the municipalities of Santa Catarina (30), São Domingos (25), and São Lourenço dos Órgãos (16). Outside of Santiago, cases have been reported in São Vicente (8), Fogo (1), and São Nicolau (1).

In response to the recent increase in detections, the INSP has recommended preventive measures, specifically advising caution in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces and areas with large crowds. Individuals experiencing respiratory symptoms are encouraged to avoid close contact with others to reduce transmission risks. The institute noted that the country's enhanced laboratory capacity and genomic sequencing capabilities allow for local diagnosis and monitoring of viral threats without needing to send samples abroad.
