Cabo Vírgenes inaugurates new infrastructure for penguin sanctuary

Infrastructure improvements are being inaugurated at the Cabo Vírgenes penguin sanctuary to enhance tourism and conservation efforts. The project includes the construction of a new lookout point at the penguin colony, the reinforcement of a two-kilometer interpretation trail, and the renovation of the Casa Alpina cabin located at the entrance.

The works were carried out through a collaborative effort involving the Provincial Agrarian Council (CAP), the Fundación Por el Mar, and Estancia Monte Dinero, with additional support from a local oil company. These upgrades aim to provide better facilities for visitors, such as bathrooms and areas to heat water, while ensuring that public use remains compatible with the protection of the area's natural values.

In addition to the physical works, officials are preparing a Master Plan for Cabo Vírgenes to guide the long-term strategic management and sustainable development of the protected area, following directives from Governor Claudio Vidal to strengthen the protection of local natural resources.
