Cachi, Argentina Chosen for UNWTO Best Tourism Villages 2026

The town of Cachi in the Calchaquí Valleys of Salta province has been selected to represent Argentina in the 2026 edition of the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s Best Tourism Villages program. The initiative highlights rural communities with populations up to 15,000 that have built sustainable tourism models while preserving cultural heritage and natural environments. Cachi’s candidacy was approved after an evaluation that also considered other Salta localities such as Molinos and San Carlos. Officials praised the designation as recognition of the town’s historic adobe architecture, vibrant traditions, high‑altitude wine production and growing visitor activity. Minister of Tourism and Sports of Salta, Manuela Arancibia, described the award as evidence of the province’s long‑term strategy to promote rural and cultural tourism. Mayor Américo Liendro called it a collective achievement that reinforces community identity and sustainable development. The nomination now proceeds to an international expert panel that will assess Cachi alongside candidates from other countries.
